SOL Waves
Swimming has been an integral part of my family for many generations and it’s a passion I’m excited to share with all of you.
In fact, my great-great grandfather was a well- known swimmer in Portugal during the 1940s, which makes the passion for water sports run deep in our blood.
The name SOL is the Portuguese word for ‘’sun’’ symbolizing the warmth, energy and joy we bring to every lesson.

Little more about Myself and my Team
I’m Tyla-Paige Clowes but everyone calls me TP.
I’m the proud owner of SOL Waves Swim School. I’ve been coaching swimming and water polo since 2021, helping swimmers of all ages and players to develop their skill and confidence in the water.
A bit about my background – I was swimming captain in both high school - Pietermaritzburg Girls High School (GHS) and primary school - Clarendon Primary School. My passion for swimming began at a young age, starting as a competitive swimmer in Grade 4.
Over the years, I dedicated myself to the sport, competing at various levels throughout my school career, all the way to the end of high school. After matriculating from high school, I began my coaching journey in Learn-to-Swim (LTS) programs across various schools. This path eventually led me to a head coach position at Northern Park School, where I had the opportunity to grow both as a coach and mentor.
While swimming was my primary focus, my involvement in coaching expanded when GHS offered me a junior and assistant coach role for their water polo program in 2021. In 2025 I stepped into the role of heading up their water polo team, which I am excited for the opportunity to continue fostering talent and promoting teamwork in this dynamic sport. During 2025 I have been assisting St Charles with their afternoon JP swimming sport and High School and SP polo program.
In addition to my LTS and Level 1 coaching qualification, I hold certifications in Time Keeping, Judging, and Water Polo Refereeing.
I'd like to introduce Yvonne Clowes, one of my part-time assistant coaches.
With over 20 years of experience in the swimming world, as a dedicated swimmer mom cheering on her children through countless competitions, has since evolved into an active role in the sport.
Yvonne is not only a qualified Timekeeper and Judge but also a certified Learn-to-Swim (LTS) coach, ensuring that swimmers of all ages and abilities are given the right foundation. Her dedication to the sport, combined with her warm and supportive approach, makes her an asset to our coaching team.
Trevor Clowes, who was a competitive swimmer in his time at school, has supported the sport over the past 18 years.
Trevor is also a qualified Time- keeper, and a certified Safeguarding Officer for SOL Waves.
Alongside me I have a team of experienced coaches ready to guide you on your swimming journey!
